Ignite Young Imaginations.
Let’s Create a Magical Space for Young Authors!
You could host a writing workshop for kids.
Perhaps you’re a schoolteacher, librarian, co-ordinator of an out-of-school-hours program or someone who has a valuable asset at your finger-tips.
That asset?
A venue to facilitate a writing workshop for 9-12 year-old aspiring authors.
Or perhaps you’re a parent without that asset, BUT you’re an advocate for children who love writing, and you’re happy to connect with your local library and request they host a workshop.
I can tell you from experience that a love of reading can often spill over into a love of storytelling and writing.
My life is proof.
At thirteen years of age, inspired by Famous Five mysteries, I created my first book out of bits of paper - “The Mystery of the Missing Banana and Stolen Diamond.”
Today as I travel to school and speak with students, I often hear them say, “I stapled paper together Mrs Allen and wrote my own book!”
Most fictional stories start with a “What if?” in the author’s mind.
I have a few “What if’s” for you.
What if… the next J. K. Rowling or Rick Riordan lives in your neighbourhood, and you just haven’t met them yet?
What if… you were the person who provided the learning space for that budding author to begin their bestseller?
What if… one day you heard the news - A child who attended the writing workshop you hosted, is now an accomplished writer?
Like I say, in the world of fiction, anything is possible!
“BEGIN YOUR BESTSELLER” is a two-hour workshop for 9-12 year-olds who love reading and writing.
Here’s what each child will come away with:
a rock-solid understanding of the key elements that make a story truly great.
An understanding of how to outline a story from its thrilling beginning to its satisfying end.
The skill of strategically planning and weaving scenes that captivate readers.
A sense of empowerment. They’ll know exactly where to start and what steps to take to get their story written.
Links to cutting-edge writing software that empowers quick and efficient writing.
A treasure trove of resources and treats in their very own gift bag.
Spoiler Alert - Here’s what each child will NOT come away with:
A complete story.
It takes a long time to write a good story. It’s simply not possible in two hours :)

“The writing workshop with Carmen Allen was incredibly informative and fun! The kids were so excited at the end to get out and straightaway show their parents all the useful tools and methods that they’d learnt. The kids can now go home, put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard), and write out what is sure to be a creative, well thought out, story.” - Olivia Hodges (Customer Services Officer, Tomaree Public Library)
“Carmen delivered a delightful workshop for our school holiday program at Raymond Terrace Library. Carmen presented each child with a lovely bag of goodies to take home to continue with their writing journey. The feedback from the children was very positive. Each participant telling us how much they enjoyed the session and how lovely Mrs Allen was.” Nada Voorbij,
